Taking Your Driving Test

Once we feel you are a competent driver, it will be time to start down the road of taking your test. There are two parts, the theory test and the practical test. Below we examine each stage and what is expected in order to pass each one.

Driving Theory Test

Your first step to freedom on the road is to book your theory test. This can be done online by clicking the button below. The current test cost is £23.

Multiple Choice

When you arrive at the test centre, the test will consist of two parts. The first is Multiple Choice where you will be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes and the minimum pass mark is 43 correct answers out of 50.

You can practice the multiple choice test for free here:

Hazard Perception

You will be shown 14 CGI clips, each showing an everyday road scene. 13 out of 14 clips contain one developing hazard, whilst one of the clips contains two. Depending on how fast you react to the developing hazards shown, you can score up to 5 points per hazard.

Show Me Tell Me Questions

There are several stages to the practical test, all of which you have been practicing with your driving instructor. One part you can practice here is the ‘Show Me Tell Me’ section. After first doing an eye test (reading a number plate from a distance), you will be asked 2 out of 19 vehicle safety questions.

Examples of the ‘Show Me Tell Me’ questions can be found by clicking the button below. We have also provided a couple of ‘Show Me Tell Me’ clips more closely related to the instructors vehicles you will likely be taking your test in.
